Anastrozole (Arimidex) is a new substance made for the treatment of more serious phases of women breast cancer. Specifically Anastrozole is the first in the new class of third-generation selective oral aromatized inhibitors. It works by blocking of aromatized enzymes, later blocking the production of estrogens. Because many forms of cancer cells in breasts are stimulated by estrogen, some thinking was that by reducing the quantity of estrogen in the body the spreading of such a disease would be prevented. This is the basic premise with Nolvadex, except the fact that this substance blocks its effect and not the production of estrogen .
